our history

Brosnan Klaar was born of the joining of two companies separated by a sea, but united by a shared vision. Follow their history and the challanging environments that forged them.

1970s-1980s: Building at Scale

Across New Zealand and Australia, rapid urban growth drives a construction boom. Commercial towers reshape city skylines, apartment developments increase urban density, and public infrastructure expands to support growing populations.

The industry's focus is on building quickly and efficiently.

Few are considering the long-term challenges that future owners will face as these assets age.

1994-2004: Leaky Building Crisis

A combination of regulatory change, changing construction methods, untreated timber framing and a nationwide building boom contributes to what becomes the Leaky Building Crisis. Thousands of buildings develop significant defects and weather-tightness failures.

The need for specialist remediation expertise becomes increasingly critical.

2005: ANZ Responds

New Zealand introduces the Building Act 2004, strengthening industry oversight, practitioner responsibilities and building controls following lessons from the weathertightness crisis.

Across the Tasman, Australian regulators are also placing greater emphasis on risk management, compliance and long-term building performance.

The focus is no longer solely on building new structures. Owners are increasingly concerned with protecting and extending the life of existing assets.
